What is your design philosophy?

it's a great source of inspiration

Inspiration isn't a noun. It's not a thing. It is the process of being compelled to do creative work and it starts in your brain! You don't need a style board or an inspiration image. You just need yourself. You already have everything you need. You might just need a little help understanding what tools you already have in your pocket. That's where I come in.

In this class I'm sharing the core message of my personal design philosophy and how this is translated in my work with clients and creative play. This simple philosophy is, like the principles of design, an anchor and a cloud. I have a place to start, but where the wind blows, who knows! If I get tossed around, I can just come back to that anchor for a refresh and determine next steps.

Because my philosophy can be interpreted in different ways through all the seasons, I am able to set off on a fun journey each time I have a project before me. I leave with confidence and flexibility, and am stimulated creatively on a regular basis.

Why Flowers?

To start, Kelly describes her core design philosophy and shares the backstory about how this philosophy was developed and how you can learn from her personal story with flowers. She also shows an arrangement that encapsulates the story.

The Why and the How

In this demonstration, Kelly shares an arrangement created with items from her garden, a fragrant wild azalea and feathers from her family's homestead in Scotland. Signature Wedding Centerpiece & Bouquet

Kelly translates the inspired design philosophy into wedding work. A full tutorial of a step-by-step centerpiece and coordinating bouquet. She considers costs, identifies constraints and uses her knowledge and expertise of the elements to bring the client beautiful pieces that are both practical and unique.

Hi, I'm Kelly Perry. Jesse is my husband and together we founded Team Flower and Philosophy Flowers. We are passionate about the people who make up our beloved flower industry and seek to be a consistent voice of encouragement.

My educational background is in design (interiors and fashion), business and secondary education. Prior to Team Flower I worked in Event Management.

My first gig as a florist was actually teaching — for both a college and high school special. I've been teaching professional florists since 2014 and have seen hundreds of creative hearts set free!
